Heart Regift, a diorama

who doesn’t like papier maché? not me.

heart regift
papier maché, ribbon, cardboard box
a heart returned to its owner, taken from a former lover who had held it captive, beating, in a box. lesson: if you give your heart away, some day, you may have to steal it back and eat it.

dedicated to Jeanette Winterson and her novel The Passion, a beautiful book about living and slaving for love. it’s a dreamy read.

about this diorama:
colors on the heart: heart made from a section of the phl ‘burb daily paper. as i was making it, i noticed a little bit of color imparted by some red text; and as luck would have it, then found a full page ad in red, yellow, and blue — perfect colors for a raw heart.

paste: of whole wheat flour and water at about a 1:1 ratio. i think white flour or something less clumpy would have been easier to paste with, but whole wheat is what we had. whole wheat’s better for the heart anyway.

it’s a fiesta!: most of my encounters with papier maché have been with crepe paper-encrusted donkeys, considering filling this with candy.
