Topiary Garden, Uncanny Valley, a diorama

Topiary Garden, Uncanny Valley
shoebox, floral arrangement foam, moss, wallpaper, carpet, white bubble wrap, elmers glue

This diorama takes place in the Uncanny Valley, where robots maintain their own common spaces, like this topiary garden where great robots of the past are rendered in greenary.

The Uncanny Valley is a place on a graph.  The graph is a map of human approval levels of humanoid robots.  Humans, it is believed, approve of robots and other human-like machines until those machines begin to resemble humans a bit too much.  In the Valley, humans are repulsed by the too-human but not-quite-human machines.

Pull up a carpet square, have a picnic, it’s pleasant here.  Do not be repulsed.
